Last week we welcomed Robin Bury to team Switch as our new Corporate Partnerships Manager joining our Partnerships team. Robin is one of four new members of staff we welcomed this month, so look out for their introductions. Find out more about Robin below.
Tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m Robin, born in Somerset the family moved to London when I was 5. In 2018 I returned to London after a 20 year stint living in Sydney, Australia, with my partner and two children, the oldest of which was 5 too. We live in Hornsey, N8 and this is my first adventure in the charity sector.
Where did you work before The Switch?
My career has mostly been spent in media sales, working across TV, radio, magazines and digital. Most recently I worked in construction in a business development role, which was a departure and an interesting and steep learning curve.
What are you looking forward to working at The Switch?
Being a parent of two school age children makes me realise the importance of a level playing field and a meritocracy for all school leavers regardless of their postcode or background. Everyone wants the best for their child. To play a part in achieving this and seeing young people realise their potential will be incredibly rewarding.
Any hobbies?
I love film and try to visit my local cinema every week, I also do love a Wittertainment podcast, hello to Jason. I’m an F1 fan but the eldest child is trying to re-engage my support of Spurs, as he lives and breathes football.
What is one thing you have learnt over this very strange time?
The Covid era, that nobody is calling it, yet, has taught me the importance of family, parents and siblings as much as my own and having them close. As borders close and isolation is now a thing, we can’t predict our futures so keeping family close is critical. Also, who knew supermarket shopping could be so therapeutic? When it was the only retail therapy available it became the highlight of the day/week, not the lowlight.
