Welcome to our new Alumni Network Manager, Nicky Sahota!

This month, born and raised Tower Hamlets resident, Nicky Sahota, joined Team Switch to lead our Alumni work.

Find out more about Nicky:

Tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m 30 years old, born and raised in Tower Hamlets. I am deeply passionate about supporting young people in reaching their full potential and working to level the playing field which reflects in my 6 years working in the industry. Outside of work, music is another major passion of mine – I DJ, organise events and run an independent record label. Recently, I discovered that I am neurodivergent, something I am incredibly proud of. While it’s often seen as a challenge, I view it as a unique strength and a blessing that I fully embrace. As a person, I’m highly social and outgoing, with a strong ability to build meaningful relationships, which I consider one of my greatest strengths.

Where did you work before The Switch?

My previous role before joining the Switch was ‘SEND Progression Coach’ for a Youth Work Charity called ‘ThinkForward UK.’ The main responsibilities of my role included overseeing a caseload of NEET young adults with learning disabilities and/or autism and supporting them to achieve their employment goals.

What are you most looking forward to working at The Switch?

I’m truly excited about the opportunity to give back to the community I grew up in. Additionally, I’m eager to take the lead in enhancing the Alumni Portal by expanding the network, creating new opportunities with employers, and ultimately helping more alumni achieve their career goals.

Any hobbies?

I’m fortunate to have a variety of hobbies and interests, including playing and watching sports like football (HUGE Arsenal fan) and cricket, running, going to the gym, DJ’ing, collecting vinyl records, and spending time with friends. While I’m naturally outgoing and thrive in social settings, I’ve recently come to appreciate the value of spending time alone as well.

What is one thing you have learnt over the last few years of adversity?

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve gained through adversity is a deeper sense of self-awareness, which has strengthened my resilience, adaptability, and drive. While we can’t always control the situations we face, we do have control over our mindset and how we respond to challenges. The past few years have shown me that I am capable of overcoming anything that comes my way and this realisation has played a significant role in shaping the person I am today.
